Overseas Experiences Posted Tuesday, November 17, 2009 09:04 AM While I was stationed in Tehran, Iran I was sent to the NCO Primary Leadership school for 3 weeks in Bad Tolz Germany, close to the Austrian border in March of '77. The NCO's gave the class a tour of the facility and took us to underground tunnels where there were German slogans painted everywhere on the concrete walls. I didn't know until this time that this facility was a training site for German SS officers during world war ll. |

During my first assignment I was assigned to the 120th MP Detachment, Sentry Dog School, 1971-72, on Okinawa. I went there with a bunch of young soldiers that I went through AIT with. After being in country for about 3 hours we got the idea to go to town. Had no idea where town was. We asked a Marine on the curb where to go. He told us to get in a taxi and say "BC Street huba huba". We flagged a taxi down and one of us mentioned that it was our first day in country. The driver took us up a mountain and we saw how beautiful the place was. The ride took 35-40 minutes. We arrived in Koza and paid the driver. After a time in town and after having plenty of fun, we decided to go back to the barracks. We jumped in a taxi and were back to Sukiran in less than ten minutes. That was my intro to the orient. Some things they did not tell me about at Baker. Kenny Kenny |
