Memories of The Roar 10-24-09

This was my first event for Baker High since I graduated in 1966. I really enjoyed meeting up with some of my classmates and some of my new friends on Facebook. I really enjoyed spending time with Shari Phipps Evans from my class. She and I had been in touch on Facebook and she has been a wonderful, supportive friend.  Patsy Patterson Upton from my class located me and she and her husband spent some time with us. I took my best friend from childhood, Dottie Belisle Langford, with me to The Roar. Dottie and Patsy both went to Eastway Elem with me. Dottie went to Columbus High but is good friends with Mike Merritt so we surprised him with her presence. Dottie and I had been in touch by e-mail for the last few months but this was our first meeting since around 1967. It was such a wonderful day to see her again. When we first got to The Roar it was Mike Merritt parking cars so we really surprised him.  Once we walked to the parking lot beside Cook's Place I heard someone call "Lucy". It was John Crimmel. So glad I got to speak to him for a few minutes in person. He also has been a good, supportive friend on Facebook. Got to speak to Roy briefly. Dottie, my husband, Don, and I looked around for a table/banner for class of '66 but never found one. We parked our chairs somewhere close to the '69 table and a few people found us. I am now hearing that some of my classmates were near the '63 table. I did get to meet Gary Bender from Texas, Gini Duke and met Terry inside Cook's Place. So, Cindy Fucci Johns -- I have home baked cookies for you with your name on them!! We really did enjoy The Roar, but the cool air and standing on concrete too long when I should have been sitting got the best of me. The fibromylgia pain and hip pain got to be too much for me to stay so we left around 9:30 p.m. I believe. I'm sure I missed a lot more fun and missed a chance of seeing more classmates. I really wish that I could have walked around looking for people but was just not able to do that.  Maybe next time....I sure hope so.  Thanks to Roy for hosting The Roar and for the special place he provides where you can stop by, have a hot dog and see memories from Baker and maybe run into a Lion or two. I think Cook's Place has the heart of Baker High now. Below are a few memories.

Tyrene, I'm glad you liked the pics. I loved yours also. I am really disappointed that I didn't get to meet several people that I had hoped to meet...but there is always the Spring. Meanwhile, I'll see you on Facebook. Thank you for your friendship!! Blessing, Lucy

Hey Lucy, that was a great write up of our time at the Roar.  I had a blast and really enjoyed seeing you and Patsy and meeting Dottie.  And it was such fun to see so many other folks.  I'm still enjoying the memories of such a special night.

Blessings and hugs,

Shari

Thanks, Shari, get me started and I can write a book!! I'm still recalling the night myself. What a treat to get to see you, Dottie and Patsy and spend time with all of you talking. I wish the weather wasn't so cool and maybe we could have seen a few more people.

I've taken it easy yesterday and today so my hip is feeling better. Hope you are well. Blessings, Lucy
