Looking for Teacher Awilda Otero

Does anyone know what happen to Teacher Awilda Otero, who taught  English at BHS 1972?

I live in Texas and there is a Professor at one of the colleges who has this name but I do not know if it's her or not?  I did not want to start calling her if it's not the right Teacher.

Appreciate any information.

Interesting that you're asking about Ms. Otero.  She's the one teacher I remember vividly from my senior year at Baker.  I don't know where she is, but had looked in the faculty profiles for her when I first came to the site and was disappointed to not see her listed.  If you do find her, please let us know!

Deena,

I would be happy to let everyone know about Ms. Otero.  She was my English teacher in 72 and she really made an impression on my life.   Ms. Otero went to high school with my older sister and she also taught two more of my brothers.   There is a Professor here in Texas with the same name so I will try to contact her and find out if this is her.  Will let you know!

Take care,

I'm anxious to see if you find out anything Shirley....Ms. Otero was one of my favorites as well.  I wonder if any of the teachers know or maybe some of the former Lions who became teachers in Muscogee county.  It's worth a try...hope to hear the outcome soon.

Shirley, there are 3 Awilda Otero's on facebook and I emailed all 3. If I hear back, hopefully one of them will be the teacher you are looking for. I will also see if I can find an email address for her. I have found several friends that way..............YOU WERE ONE OF THEM!  I'll let you know if I find her.

I have had a request to add Mrs. Manfield to the list of faculty. She taught math in 68 -69. Just needed to know her first name so I can add her to the faculty list correctly. Does anyone have an yearbook during this time? You should be able to find her photo and name listed in the back with the faculty. Thanks for your help!

I was in Columbus last week and happened to run into Awilda Otero.  She lives in Virginia and now has the website info so perhaps she will join us soon.

Carol....thanks .... Ms. Otero was a great teacher and I think a lot of us will try to get in touch with her if she gets on this website....hopefully she will.  It's good to know she's still around.

On July 1, 2009, Carol and I were having lunch at the Vallarta Mexican Restaurant in the Traffic Circle Shopping Plaza... it is my favorite because their kickin' salsa has cilantro in it!

Because I never sit with my back to the door, I noticed Awilda Otero Rogers, as soon as she walked in. So when she walked by our table, I just had to ask if she had taught at Baker. With a smile, she said that she had. That is when Carol's memory recalled that Awilda Otero had been a student when they attended Baker. So, Mrs. Otero Rogers is in the Class of '66 and she returned to be a English Teacher during '70 - '78!

Wow, I just get a thrill being back in Columbus and running into familiar faces again! Even though I never had the pleasure of being one of her students, I still remembered her and since then, I have added her name to the Faculty list. I couldn't help myself, but I did send her an email with all of the wonderful sentiments.  Hopefully, she will activate her profile and join us soon...

Enjoy your daze,

Slyvia,

It's wonderful that you were able to find Ms. Otero.

I found her through Classmates and sent her an invite to the October gathering.  She never replied, I guess she did not recall who I was.

Ms. Otero went to school with my sister and she always came up in conversations concerning BHS.

Did you invite her to the October get together?  I do hope she will make it.
