Baker Legacy's

I know a lot of us had older or younger brothers, sisters, cousins, and in some cases parents that attended Baker, so what if we ALL make a concerted effort to BRING BACK THE BUMS LEGACY??!  I had 2 MUCH older brothers (Bill Hayes'61 and Jim Hayes '61) and an ever so slightly older sister (Susan Hayes '67 :-) that attended Baker and I know many of us shared the same situation with our families, which is the WHY we consider ourselves ONE BAKER FAMILY, because our brother's and sister's knew one another, had the same teachers, got the same LICKS FROM OP!  So, what do you all think about being responsible for bringing back at least ONE Legacy?? Just throwing it out there guys and gals....good idea?

I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters who attended Baker at some point. My younger brother Bill will be attending the ROAR in October as well.

Great Carol, when did they attend Baker? My brothers and sister all went there from 9th grade till graduation.  My dad retired from the Army in '69 and moved to Alabama, so I moved to Athens, Ga to live with my brother and graduated there because I did not want to graduate from high school in Alabama!  Thanks for showing interest in the Baker Legacy's! Hope to see you in the fall!

ok my last post got sent out to cyberspace lala land!

I have said repeatedly that I think the Sabordo's must hold the record for most siblings who attended/graduated from BHS.  I am one of 12 (yep and we were raised on an E-7's salary!)  There were 10 of us who attended Baker and 6 who graduated!

great idea WOODY....you know i kinda had a "legacy" experience at the Spring Fling as a matter of fact....i too had older and younger siblings that are BUMS also....a younger sister Gayle '72, and older sister Raycille '67 and our brother Billy '59 who is now deceased....Our brothers best friend growing up and until he passed away was W.J. Orr '59...they were inseperable...at the Fling i was able to see W.J's younger brother and sister who are also BUMS and we had a great time talking about our brothers and their friendship for life....sadly both of them have passed on...but for that brief few minutes 2 families got to bring them both back with some old stories and a lot of smiles....guess you could say we found our "Legacy" together....

Hey Woody... Let's see, this is a real test of my memory. My oldest sister Shirley attended Baker her freshman year in 1966 then we joined my father in Okinawa where she graduated.  We returned to Columbus in 1969 when my father's tour ended on Okinawa and he retired. My brother Wayde went to Baker 1969-1970. My sister Betty left Baker in 1972. I graduated Baker 1974. My sister Gail graduated in 1976, Bill graduated 1977 and Mark in 1978. Bill plans to attend the Roar in October and for those of you still in Columbus and familiar with the southside, Bill owns Oakland Park Barber Shop (across from Eddy Jr. High) which he took over from my Dad.

Whew, I think that has us all. I'm sure not a record for number of siblings attending but a bit of a legacy.

I also would like to add the GREEN Family to the list of Baker's Legacy.  We won't be able to beat the Sebordo's Family with their total of twelve kids but we'll go half way!

We had six Bums that attended Baker, with four actually graduating from there.  My oldest sister Linda was in the class of 1967,we transfered and she then graduated in Colorado.

My oldest brother Wayne was in the class of 1968, he graduated in Germany.  Brother Jim (class of 71) and I (class of 72) finished in the next two years.    Younger brother Bruce graduated in 1984 and brother Richard in 1986.

It seemed like every time our father got transfered out, we always knew that we were going to return back to "GOOD  OLD BAKER HIGH".   How fortunate it was that we did because now we have such good memories.

There were only three of  us Wells lions, but we were kind of spread out. My brother Glenn graduated in 60 and came back to to teach English in the late 60's and early 70's (I actualy had him for freshman English). My sister Sue graduated in 67 and I finished muddling my way through in 74.

Gary,

I bet that was something else for you to have your brother as your English Teacher! Wow! I don't think I could handle the class if my sister was my Teacher!

Ms Otero (My English Teacher) and my sister were school pals at Baker. You talk about hard...... she always reminded me just how smart Linda was in school and wondered why I didn't try harder. (lol)

If you graduated in 1974, then you would of known my brother Bruce.

Best Regards,

Shirley,

Having my brother wasn't too bad. He was a pretty good teacher.

From sixth grade through the end of high school, many of my teachers had taught my sister. I know how you felt about the pre-concieved expectations.

I had Miss Otero for senior English. All the boys were in lust with her and for some reason, most of the girls didn't like her very much.

I vaguely remember your brother. I don't think we had many classes together.  My circle of friends wasn't real big.

Pete,

I will be more than happy to tell Bruce your hello!  Wow! You had a big family too!

Do you think you or any of your siblings will be at the October gathering this year? It would be great to see everyone there. I'm trying to get Bruce to join on in. He married Patricia from 74 - sorry, I can't seem to recall her last name.

Did you attend college with Bruce at Columbus? Or did you work with him? He and his wife live in Florida and work for the Government - Federal prision.

Hey gang!  Thanks for everyone posting their "Legacy's".  When we add it all up we ARE one Big Baker Family!  So many of our brothers and sisters werer friends or knew one another.  It was like having years and years of Hall Monitors walking the streets...everyone had eyes upon you!  That is probably why our high school delinquency rate was the lowest in Columbus!  If you get a moment when you go on the other Forums, talk up the Legacy Forum and lets see if we can get others to list their Baker Legacy's!  WOW...Oakland Park.. Barber Shop!!  I tried and tried to avoid barber shops...and did, until Uncle Sam got his way in '70!

Shirley,

My husband, Roger Salazar (BHS 67) plays golf with your brother Bruce when he and Pat

come to Columbus.  We have known your brother and Pat for a while.  Pat and I use to sort of hang out before she married.  I know she has been battling some medical problems,

how is she?  We also know her brothers.

Patricia,  I did not know you were a Livingston.I worked with your mom and dad at Swift for years.GREAT PEOPLE!!! Your dad actually got my brother Paul and I our jobs there.Mike and Keith went with us alot on rafting trips and along the river catching critters with Charles Liner (Baker Biology teacher) before there was an official Ecology club at Baker.

Pete....Yes, the Livingston's are my family.  I've heard my parents mention ya'll, favorably of course.  If you know my dad, his favorite things to talk about are Alabama football and the mill.

Keith & Mike started that critter hunting way before their Baker days.   Mother almost had a stroke once when Mike came home with snakes in one of her pillowcases.

Keith has his profile on the website.

The Salazar family is half the size of the Sabordo family.  Starting with my two oldest and one youngest brothers, Cesar ('64), Roger ('67),  Ralph "Jon" ('73),  then myself, Judith Salazar Depasupil ('68), and two younger sisters, Sonia Salazar Victorio ('69) deceased 2008, Ann Salazar Russell ('77)...all graduated at Baker High School.  Roger and Ralph still live in Columbus, GA; Cesar, Sonia (deceased) and myself are in Lilburn, GA (outside of Atlanta); and Ann lives in Palm City, FL.  We are looking forward to being at the Roar Renuion on Oct. 23rd and 24th. See you there!!!

Judy!

God bless you and your family.  I believe the very first funeral I ever attended was your father's back in the mid 60's.  I remember saying the rosary for several nights and Filipino's bringing all kinds of dishes.  Sonia took me under her wings - she was such a social butterfly - and I was sooo very shy.  I was upset to hear about her, but her legacy will live on through her children.  We have lost 2 of our younger brothers also - George '72 and Roger '73.  Still uncertain that any of us will be able to make it in Oct (I live in Fl. and we plan on going up to the Tn. mountains mid-Oct to see the leaves change - don't know how much leave time I will have left).  But I hope to run into any of you Salazar's in the future.  So glad we have this website to be able to stay in touch.  (Also, about 35 of us Sabordo's are on facebook.)

If you are ever in Central Florida, come visit!

Hi Pat, thanks for replying and great hearing from you, too.  I did not realized you were on the Lion Forums - Baker Legacy.  When I replied the first time, I did it under Woody's name.  I can't wait to see you and friends that I have not seen in quite awhile.  I do hope  we have  a great show of people from our Class of '68 and the other classes, too.  I noticed that Roberta "Bertie" Bugh (sorry, forgot her married name) is our Point of Contact (POC) for our class.  Looking forward to October.  See you soon.

JUDY...i just had to mention something about "SONIA"...she was one of the smartest people i ever met...every new school year when me (and a lot of other people) would go in a class for the first time, we would always look to see where SONIA was sitting and then make a bee-line as fast as we could to get a desk right next to her...not only was the "scenery" great sitting beside her but without her, a lot of us might not have graduated the year we were supposed to...i guess you could say SONIA helped me with my BHS legacy by helping me graduate on time....what a dear sweet person...

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for remembering our family who have passed on...our dad, Rafael, mom, Marcelina, and sister, Sonia, will always remain in our hearts.  We, as a family continue their legacy of love, hospitality and a lot more that they have left behind and hope that our children will do the same.  The loss of Mom and Dad have healed but Sonia's loss continues and I know will heal in due time.   I pray that Mom, Dad and Sonia are in God's hands and I'm at peace with that.  As for your family, my condolences for the loss of your brothers, George and Roger.  May you also be at peace with your loss and may the blessings be upon your family.

Hi Rodney,

Thank you so much for sharing the memories of Sonia back then.  I know during high school she was very much liked and loved by her classmates, friends and anyone that was around her.  I know how vivacious she was then and she continued being that  throughout her life.  She left behind so much love and memories for her family, especially her immediate family...husband, Fernando Victorio, daughters, Marcey Victorio Childress Denny and Veronica Victorio Jones , twin sons, Daniel Victorio and Daryll Victorio, and three granddaughters, Brittney Rene Childress, Allison Childress and Dominique Denny.  Sonia is greatly missed.  If you have not done so, look up Sonia's name ('69) on the Lion Profiles and read about her struggles with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and announcement of her death.  I have not yet sent her obituary to be posted but there is an announcement and what I wrote about her.  I know my brother, Roger, his wife, Patty, myself and my husband, Carlos will be at the Roar's Reunion in October...still working on my sister, Ann and my brother, Ralph (Jon) to join us but for my brother, Cesar, he's never been to a reunion.  For Sonia and I, we've gone to most of our reunions in the past.  Yeah, you can tell who's the outgoing in the family.  I hope to say "hello" to you in October.

Regards,

Judith "Judy" Salazar Depasupil ('68)
