Hmmm. Interesting stories. I'll do a funny one.

I was in the US Navy. One of our trips to the Mederranean Sea we stopped in Italy. This was about 1970-72.

Small town, we were there to show the flag.

It was between paydays, so i didn't really have any spare cash to spend so I stayed aboard. I was probably saving up for a new camera.

I was near the quarter deck, where the walkway goes between the ship and the pier, and the Executive Officer came aboard, slightly drunk. A woman was with him. Not his wife. One of the guys on watch asked him if he was okay. He winked, put his hand on her behind and said 'Just on the King's Business! I'll take care of things."

He then went up to the signal bridge and started sending morse code message to the Captain, who was sitting at a table on the outside of a bar. It being nice weather, they had put out chairs and tables for those who wanted to have a drink out of doors.

One of the signalmen got upset, not realizing it was the XO, and wanted to have 'who ever that is playing with my signal lights arrested !'. He was drunk to. We managed to calm him down and got him to sleep it off.

The XO came back down, and went over to the outdoor cafe to have a drink with the Captain.

I was drafted like a few of the other guys-- was supposed to report to the Army but I had been in Naval Reserve at and after Baker -, summer boot camp, a two week training cruise on APD 40 Bowers from Charleston to Boston and back, so the Navy activated me and I was assigned to the USS Ingraham, DD-694 for a couple of years. I did a little SP (Shore Patrol) duty in Amsterdam and rode around in a jeep with a couple of Dutch marines bringing drunk sailors back to their ships.  Didn't make me like beer any better.

Enlisted in the Air Force in 66 right after school.  Delayed enlistment so went to Texas in Sept. of that year.  Basic was very easy in the AF.  I and another guy were the only high school people in my flight, everyone else had some college.  Most lost their deferment due to whatever; reason.  So few if any real volunteers, they for the most part joined to stay out of the ground units.  Basic was just like ROTC except you were not allowed to go home at night.  So had a great time at it.  Qualified on the M1 carbine, took untill the PI to get ot fire one of the first M-15s.  So went from a small weapon to a Mattel toy weapon, but what a weapon.  Anyway ahead of life.  Basic was only 6 or 8 weeks.  Being one of the last groups to leave can remember sitting around and almost empty barracks with a few dudes and talking how much we were going to miss the place, and fellow "boots".  Never did get to see the Alamo untill 20 years later.

Just saw this section on the site and so began my story.  Not much but I had to write.  So if any of you reading this were or know any ROTC drill team members for the years of 65-67 hook us up.
