Columbus, Georgia - Stephen James Wheeler, 68 of Columbus, GA passed away in the comforting care of Columbus Hospice on February 2, 2023.
He was a 1972 graduate of Baker High School. Steve enjoyed a career as a long distance truck driver and was an avid car enthusiast; rarely seen without his MOPAR hat and most happy with a cigar clutched in his hand.
Stephen is preceded in death by his father, Bartley C. Wheeler.
Survivors include his son Benjamin J. Wheeler (Cristal Quintanilla), his mother, Helen M. Wheeler, brother, Michael C. Wheeler and his sister, Kathy W. Evers.
Left with happy memories to carry them through this sorrowful time are his grandchildren; Cameron, Sebastian, Lillian and Lincoln.
The family is grateful to Kenny Addison, Steve's longtime co-driver, for his enduring friendship; as well as Christopher Stephens, his at home caregiver and the nurses on 3 South at St. Francis Hospital for their dedication to Steve's care and kindness to the family throughout January.
Georgia Cremation-Columbus is assisting the family.
