In Memory

Charlie Williams - Class Of 1956

Charlie Baggett Williams Sr.
June 29, 1938 - March 14, 2021

Hamilton, Georgia - Born in 1938 to Charlie B. and Hazel Williams in Chipley, Florida, Charlie grew up in Columbus, GA and attended Baker High School where he was a part of the 1956 graduating class. Following graduation, Charlie married Joyce Vining and started a job in the printing industry at Litho-Krome Printing Company and went on to make printing a career achieving master pressman recognition. Upon retiring, Charlie was the Chief Operating Officer of Communicorp, Inc., a division of American Family Life Assurance Company (AFLAC).
A true outdoorsman, Charlie was often spotted at fishing holes around the world, at hunting properties around North America, and from time-to-time hiking and camping in our State and Federal Parks. In his spare time, he enjoyed shooting sporting clays with friends and family. He was a master "tinker"er and could fix anything from a broken lamp to a blown engine. He was known for his ability to rig up practically anything. His happiest moments seemed to be when he was enjoying time with his family including his grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Shane, Matthew, Benjamin, Kaitlyn, Kent, Payton, Olivia and Abigail, and his great-grandchildren, Lillie, Vining, and Tripp.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Vining Williams, and his children, Kelli(Kim) of Broomfield, CO, Shane(Eddie Jean) of Warner Robins, GA, and Matt(Dawn) of Hamilton, GA. Four days before Charlie's passing, his oldest son Charlie B. "Chic" Williams passed of a heart attack as he was preparing to leave his home in Loveland, CO and travel to Columbus to say goodbye to his father. He is also survived by his siblings, Ruth Williams Pope, Lin, and Jerry, his daughter- in-law, Marie, as well as his cousin, Barbara Harvard.
His quick wit, his gusto for laughter, and his devotion to his family will be missed by all but know that he lived a full life, did good work, and left the world a better place because he lived. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Great son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and especially older brother to me. He was one of the good guys, and we will miss him so much. -- Lindy Williams '64
