Betty Ruth Cartledge, 88, of Columbus, GA, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021.
Mrs. Cartledge was born January 10, 1933 in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late Henry Nevin Lumpkin and Ilga Earlene Lumpkin. She was a lifetime member of Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church of Columbus, GA. Mrs. Cartledge was an avid student with 100% attendance from first through twelfth grades, graduating from Baker High School. She retired from Columbus Consolidated Government as Assistant to the late Rembert Houser, Sr., Tax Commissioner. Post her retirement, she worked for Lincoln Financial Life.
Mrs. Cartledge devoted most of her life and career to her family and home. She was the matriarch of her entire extended family and friends, providing wonderful wisdom and counsel served always with her home cooked meals for which she was famous. Mrs. Cartledge could light up a room with her presence making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. She was always dressed to the nines. Mrs. Cartledge was the youngest of seven children. There were three brothers, H.N., Pete, and Raymond, with three sisters, Edna, Virginia and Nell, all of which passed before her. Her husband, Raymond Leon Cartledge also preceded her in death in 2005. They were an inseparable couple, devoting their time, patience and Love to each other and their family.
Mrs. Cartledge is survived by her two daughters, Trudie Cartledge Donovan and her husband, Mike, and Connie Cartledge Dudley, two grandsons, Mathew and Patrick of Marietta, two granddaughters, Alexis and Madelyn of Columbus, and five great grandchildren, Maleigh, Nola, Stella, Brantley and Paxton.
A private graveside service will be held.
