Nancy Fay (Stanford) Proudfit, 72, of Columbus, GA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.
A celebration of her life was held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 22, 2021 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, GA. Interment was in Parkhill Cemetery.
Nancy was born June 8, 1948 at Ft. Benning, GA, to the late Louise Stanford Gammell and James Cecil Stanford. She graduated from Baker High School in 1966. Following high school, Nancy attended Oglethorpe University and then completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English at Columbus College. Nancy was the former wife of Major Larry J. Proudfit, United States Army, ret. of Augusta, GA. They were together for more than twenty years and share two children. In 1986, Nancy went to work at Carriage House in Columbus, GA where she enjoyed a long, successful career in interior design. In addition to design, Nancy was known for her love of crafts. She was very proficient at crocheting and enjoyed stamping and making hand-made cards for her family. She was also an accomplished bridge player, earning the ACBL rank of Ruby Life Master. Needless to say, Nancy pursued all of her passions to the fullest. Her greatest passion, however, was as a devoted mother and grandmother. We will miss her presence daily and her loving spirit will live forever in our hearts.
She leaves behind her children, Chris Proudfit and his wife, Anne of Newnan, GA and Emily Main and her husband, Bryan of Buford, GA; two grandchildren, Audrey and Brandon Main; one brother, Jimmy Stanford of Columbus, GA; one nephew, Derrick Stanford of Columbus, GA; three nieces, Dana Baumgart and her husband, Matt of Phenix City, AL; Denise Braithwaite and her husband, Jim of Marietta, GA and Donna Murphy and her husband, Mike of Kennesaw, GA; great nieces and nephews, several cousins, extended family and friends.

I send my condolences to Nancy’s family. I knew Nancy in high school, but we did not keep in touch after graduation. I knew her as a friendly, lovely girl when we were young. Blessings!

I didn't know Nancy, but it's always so sad to see another Baker student die. My prayers go out to her husband and children.

Nancy was my first friend. We were 2 years old when my parents moved to Columbus. Our families lived next door to each other. I got in lots of trouble for sneaking through the fence to go to her house 😆. Our Dads were great friends as well. We grew up & went our own ways. We didn't keep in touch very closely & eventually lost touch. I was very sad about that. I send prayers and best wishes for her family.
