Fortson, Georgia - Conrad Moritz Varnon, 76, of Fortson passed away December 3, 2020. A Celebration of Life on Rainbow Island, Lake Harding is being planned for the Spring.
Conrad was born October 19, 1944 in Germany. His parents were Tine Moritz Varnon and Dallas Varnon. He grew up in Germany and moved to Columbus at the age of 16. He was a 1964 graduate of Baker High School and joined the Navy where he served on the USS Intrepid in the Tonkin Gulf during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Conrad earned his Bachelor's Degree from Columbus College. He entered the broadcast industry through his first job at WTVM in Columbus. In 1974, he established his own advertising agency, Conrad Varnon Advertising, specializing in TV commercials, but also developed radio, print and billboard media. In 1976, Conrad acquired an island on Lake Harding that he named Rainbow Island where he lived out his life sailing and "being the man on the island".
Conrad is survived by his wife, Patricia Varnon; two sons, Troy Varnon of Colorado, Alex Holland of Auburn, AL; two sisters, Suzan Denson of Columbus, Lori McNeil of Mauk, GA and four grandchildren.
