Charles Smith - Class Of 1953

Charles P. Smith, passed away November 24, 2018 at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. 
Charlie was born on November 16, 1935, in Fort Benning, GA to Ansley and Eunice Hogan Smith. He was the youngest of five children, as well as being a twin, and was raised in Columbus, GA. Charlie was also a veteran of the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Jeanette Petty Smith, in 1961 and had two children together. He worked for the state of Georgia as a criminal investigator up until his retirement. After retirement, Charlie was a member of Hurt Road Baptist Church, where he was the head deacon. He enjoyed spending time with his children, and granddaughters. Charlie especially loved going to Braves Games at the new stadium and went to the Braves Spring Training in Florida every year. Charlie was a very Godly man, who touched many lives with his uplifting spirit.
Charles is preceded in death by Margarete Willis (sister), Bert (Buddy) Smith (brother), Luise Perry (sister) and Jeanette Smith (wife).
Charles is survived by Patsy McDonald (sister), Stuart Smith (son), Maureen Smith (daughter) Samantha Smith (granddaughter), Shelby Smith (granddaughter) and Carol Smith (daughter in-law).
The memorial service will be held at Hurt Road Baptist Church on November 29. Visitation is at 10:00 and the service following at 11:00 with Reverend Mike Parker and Reverend Tony Powers officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The American Cancer Society in Charles P. Smith’s memory.
