UPDATE:

Lavada Cardwell passed away on January 18, 2021.  Due to Covid, the family was not able to have a memorial service to honor her. Lavada’s son posted this: We have a new Celebration of Life memorial announcement! Lavada Caldwell-Smith’s Celebration of Life Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Location: McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd Columbus, GA 31907 Thanks to the Order of the Eastern Star for coming to conduct their memorial tribute. The Red Hat Society will also be reading a poem in honor of my mother. Minister David Cox, who has known my mother since he was a teenager, will preside over the service with a full and loving heart. Beverly prepared a wonderful slide show of my mother’s life, she calls a “highlight reel” and I will try my best to read a eulogy I prepared with a few memories that I hope will spur others to share theirs.

Lavada and I had many conversations comparing genealogy after I found out I was adopted and my birth name was Caldwell. It was interesting to research, but sad to learn we had no common ancestors. this was, of course, before Ancestry.com. Having been reminded of our search, I'm going back to my paper files and do more online searching. RIP Lavada, after reading your profile I know we'll be seeing each other again.
