I was just notified by, Billy Waldrop '61, Johnny Radney died last night (Friday, March 22, 2109) in a house fire.  Hi wife, Judy (Riddle) Radney '66, just barely got out.  David Kirk '61 called Billy and told him.  My neighbor, Adam, a firefighter, told me an elderly man and a dog were found dead.  I went by their home early this afternoon and their house was engulfed. When more information comes out I will share with all of you. (We'll update this IN MEMORY and send you a link.) Some believe one of them were smoking in bed.  I have some pictures if you wish to see them. -- Ish Nazario '61

My heart is breaking.  I have such regret that I did not visit and encourage Johnny as much as I should have recently.  His health had gotten so bad, and I know he was fighting to be brave.

Several years ago John and Judy saw a need in their spiritual life, and they came to me to be baptized for the remission of their sins.  They did not want to miss out on going to Heaven.  They drove to Buena Vista several times to worship with us but the distance was too much. They continued to send a contribution every month.

I missed a last chance to see him at the recent Lions Lunch, but I was too sick to go.  My wife and son did go late, but got to sit with Johnny at lunch.  Then he collapsed and had to be taken to the ER.
His sense of humor and playing jokes on everyone made him special, and he never forgot a friend..

I cannot imagine what Judy, John III and Jeff must be going through.

God bless you old soldier.

I feel sad for Johnny as we go back to the 6th grade at South Columbus Elementary School.  We went all through BHS.  When I lived in Indiana and KY and would visit Columbus Johnny was one that would always meet with us.  Now Johnny is meeting with Arnold Robinson and many others that are also gone.  I seen him last at our March luncheon and spole to him the following Thursday,  He will be missed and may he rest in peace.
